Shabazz Palaces - Black Up (2011)

This was recommended by AMG.  Maybe hip-hop has grown up and I haven't.  Or maybe it's just not very good.  Either way, I would just rather listen to Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, De La Soul 3 Feet High and Rising, or DJ Shadow's Entroducing than this.

Fin.

CD Placement Rating:  Pile of Death.

Y'know what? I AGREE with you. I saw this on tons of 2011/12 "Best of" lists from cool people who know way more than me. When I finally listened it went so far over my head I thought Jay Schroeder was DJ'ing.

THE DECTRACTOR, AS PREDICTED:

It's a masterpiece as are his two EPs. Everything he is doing right now is way out ahead of everything else in hiphop. If you are mostly a 90s hiphophead I can understand why there's not much there for you. But for my tastes and the current diet of hiphop out there, this is as fresh forward looking as ATLiens or Funcrusher Plus was at the end of that decade.

On a positive note check out Tanya Morgan's 2009 album Brooklynati for a 90s De La/Pharcyde/Native Tongues vibe. Also Oddisee has been bumping stuff for 5 years that you would probably dig.

Sorry, Evan, had to do it. I knew you'd be coming for me, but honestly it's not my genre.

Barry, it is good to see that you are finally coming around to THE TRUTH that is my musical opinion. Keep up the good work.
